House Concerts Rock!!!

One of my favorite places to perform are house concerts. They are intimate and cozy and create a great space for music, connection and fun! It is definitely a win-win for all involved. The listeners get to experience the artist(s) and music up close and personal without interruption, and the artist is gifted with an attentive and engaged audience. Definitely WIN-WIN. You don't have to be a concert promoter to host a house concert - anyone can do it! I am currently booking dates for Fall 2010 through 2011. If you are interested in being a host (no matter where you live - I'll come to you!), please read the "House Concert Basics" below and contact marie@mariemcgilvray.com. Hope to see you at your home soon!

House Concert Basics:

1. We usually do two 45 min sets with a 20 min break in between.

2. We will bring our own sound system - we will keep the volume reasonable, but you may want to let your neighbors know about the show just in case. We will need access to at least 2 outlets.

3. Tickets are $15.00 and can be purchased in advance via a PayPal account we will set up for the show; there is also a premium option that includes autographed CDs for $30.00. Tickets can also be purchased at the door.

4. The hosts are not expected to provide meals/drinks for everyone - they usually provide the space and minimal beverages/snacks. Usually everyone brings a dish to share and their own drinks. Also, their own chairs if it will be outdoors. (Note: You are free to set it up however you wish, just know you're not obligated to!).

5. We will need a table to set up our CDs and merchandise.

6. Most hosts will invite friends, neighbors and co-workers to the event; also, the artists may have local fans who want to attend.

7. They are usually attended by 20 to 50 people, depending on the space. The more the merrier!

8. For more info, visit: www.concertsinyourhome.com

P.S. Here's a cool CNN article about the house concert "trend": http://www.cnn.com/2010/LIVING/06/09/house.concerts/index.html
